Packing list

Packing list

As we are leaving our current apartment, we are beginning to prepare our Packing list – or a list of things, which we are going to take to South America with us. Right now, it’s a bit messy, after living at one place for several years, the place is full of stuff, that you don’t use nor need – you just have some emotional attachment for them. But at least you have some motivation to sort through it, tidy up and give away what’s not needed anymore.

Same difficulties apply for packing for the Americas, one would like to pack almost everything, cause you just cannot imagine living without it (Janka – the whole medicine cabinet, Ivan – every single piece of photo equipment). But after some research and planning, we narrowed down (ok, Janka did) some preliminary packing list.

When I looked in my wardrobe, I quickly realized that I don’t own almost anything that might be suitable for our journey. It consisted mostly from work-related clothing – lots of dresses, skirts, blouses, coats… Ivan’s wasn’t much better, as we both do not have that much hiking experience. Therefore, we decided to learn from more experienced long-term travellers.

So, we’ve come up with a list. Right now, it’s limited to mostly clothing, other gear such as tents, sleeping bags and photo / car accessories will come later. As we are going to travel for extensive amount of time and in almost all possible climates (from hikes in Patagonia and volcanos in Ecuador to hot and humid rainforest and sunny beaches in Rio de Janeiro), it is no easy task. We will have a car, but only after 2-3 weeks and we’re also limited by airline restrictions, as we’re flying in Santiago de Chile.

These are the things we’ve written down so far. If you have some good idea or your must-have piece of clothing / equipment, please – let us know in the comments, we would love to know. 🙂
Hasta pronto,
Janka

coconut oil – multifunctional love of my life. Can help you solve the situation with too much cosmetics carrying with you. Especially if ou are a girl. You can useit as:
1.body lotion – best lotion ever ever
2.massage oil – if you are tired after long trip, hiking, busy day, whatever, it smells super good, and make you feel supercomfy
2.hair oil – if you dont have hair conditioner, it will help you with softening your hair and you can comb it again easily
3.tooth paste – yes it is really antibacterial and its the basic ingredience of all of selfmade toothpastes
4.make-up remover – its soft, oily and natural – yes you can put it in to your eyes without suffering
5.face cream – if your face its suddenly dry and you need to take a bit care, you can use a bit of oil to give some life again
6.aftersun help – yepits gooood nourishment for your red skin
7.cooking ingrediance – run out of butter or oil, lets use my lovely coconut oil! it is tasty too

So together 7 different botles you can have in one!

What is PJ, pyjamas? Maybe that could be replaced with some additional thermal underwear (pants + top, long or short sleeves), which takes less space and has more uses.

Emergency poncho (http://www.coghlans.com/images/products/9676.jpg) saved my life a few times.

If you’re going to do a lot of hiking, consider these: https://goo.gl/E81KG8 . Put them inside the hiking boots together with some socks and you’ll save some space :). Also, this will spare you some pain if your feet aren’t that used to hiking boots: https://goo.gl/spp5d6

Don’t forget to impregnate your waterproof pants and jacket! 🙂

Also, maybe you’ll want to avoid touching the ground in dirty showers with your bare feet (fungus can ruin the trip) – will you use sandals for that purpose?

    +1 for ear plugs! 🙂

Hola Ivan y Janka… Cuando dicen toalla (towel) por comodidad es mejor sport towel.. Tapa ojos si les incomoda la luz para dormir…
    Bien viento.. Un abrazo. Stefa
